The barrier has fallen, ferals are swarming toward the land, and their enemies draw near. Can I say what a thrilling book this was? Well, I’m saying it alright, because it was absolutely amazing!

Patrick W. Carr, definitely hit the ball on the absolutely epic conclusion of the Staff and The Sword Series. Comparing it back to the first book, The Hero’s lot, Patrick still has the amazing writing ability that he’s carried though out the books. The detail and everything else has been phenomenal and especial with the last book, there’s no less of it! The Character’s and everything else I just love about the book, taking the time for all the little details that make this such an amazing book.

Remembering how the Characters were in the first book, and seeing how they are no, you can definitely tell that they’ve been on a grand adventure. This is a great and well written book, all of the different elects from Fantasy/Adventure/Action have been combined to create an amazing tale with a great meaning behind the story. Even when I had put this book down a few times, I wanted to pick it back up and finish the story right away and see what lied ahead for the characters. It made me at least del like I was part  of the book, imagining everything happened like it was before my very eyes.

I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Standard

Named after his highest charted song, Fighter, this book is the story of how Chris conquered his fears and found success in five stages, which he calls the anatomy of a fighter—courage, perseverance, mindset, discipline, and willpower—the five resources we can all draw on in order to reach our dreams, no matter what they are. The message is simple; we have to replace fear with faith. We all have fears in our lives, fear of not reaching what we should be reaching, fear of not doing this or that because of something, the fears and lies that Satan puts inside of our minds that we try not to believe, we need to punch fear in the face and get rid of believe any of it.

This book does exactly that, it goes through different ways that can help you conquer the fear inside of you, making the person that God intended you to be. The one thing that I really loved about this book was all of the true and personal stories that Manafest tells us through his life and how he got rid of the fear inside of him to grow to be the person that he is today. It’s his life story, all  of the hardships theta he faced, the struggles and all of the life lessons that he learned along the way.

This is one book that  had me drawn in to every page and, like a lot of other reviews for this book, this, I couldn’t put down because I  like real and true stories.

About The Author
Musician Chris “Manafest” Greenwood lost his father to suicide at the age of five, and found himself with nothing to cling to but a single mom and his childhood dream of moving to California to become a professional skateboarder. But God had different plans; by the age of 18 Chris fell in love with hip-hop music and quit his corporate job to join the ranks of Toronto’s competitive underground hip hop scene, choosing the name Manafest as a reflection of his goal to manifest his dreams. Who Said Following Jesus Was Supposed to Be Safe?

Standard

Dangerous by Chad Bislow and Ted Kluck

In 2005 Caleb Bislow decided safety was overrated. Realizing there is nowhere on earth beyond the reach of God’s love, he became what might be called an “extreme missionary,” traveling to some of the world’s most dangerous and despised places. From warring tribal villages in Africa to red-light districts in Asia to Guatemalan prisons, Caleb witnessed God’s light break through the darkness again and again.
Are you tired of playing it safe? Filled with unforgettable stories of what can happen when men and women completely surrender to God’s lead, Dangerous will help you see how He can use each of us no matter where in the world we are.
Includes resources to help you get started on your own adventures.” (Description taken from http://bakerpublishinggroup.com/books/dangerous/342130)

When we became Christians were we told our lives would be easy? Did Jesus say anything about our lives being safe and comfortable?
I don’t think so.

Our lives are changed,  and we live in a society where we’re safe in our homes, going to our comfortable jobs, and living normal lives. Jesus said we were to go out and make disciple among people. Basically, we’re to spread the good news to everyone, even if it’s dangerous to what we’re thinking, and this is a great book about that.

We need to live bold lives for Christ and Caleb shows us through this books what can really happen if we go forth and just trust in Jesus, and the amazing events that happen along the way and what really happens when we live Dangerous  and sold out lives for Christ. We need to be Jesus with Skin on to our Neighbours, friends, family, even if God calls us to go out to another part of the word, we need to take that step of faith.

There is a time though, that we need to stop reading about things and actually ACTING them out in their lives, even if it’s something simple as helping out in your own community, it’s a step of faith. I know my life won’t be the same after reading it, and I don’t think yours will be the same either.

Caleb Bislow jumped off the “cliff” of safety and security in 2005, and since then has been humbled to advance God’s kingdom on every inhabited continent in the world. He is a sought-after speaker through Kingdom Building Ministries. Caleb and his wife, Jessica, and their three children, call Franklin, Nebraska, their home. Blood And Bone By Don Hoesel Book Review

Aside

More Archaeological Adventures from Popular Suspense Writer Don Hoesel
A decade after Serpent of Moses, Jack is married to Espy and back teaching at Evanston University. They have two sons, one of whom has cystic fibrosis. Despite this challenge, life is comfortable. But that all changes when the CIA, while combing through the papers of the late Gordon Reese, uncovers the secret of Elisha”s bones. Jack”s world is then turned upside down by an urgent call from his old friend Duckey, who”s been alerted to the CIA”s probing by one of his former contacts. Jack and his family escape from their home just ahead of the CIA, and he decides to do what he should have done long ago: recover the bones and destroy them. Except the bones aren”t where he left them.
So now Jack is in a race, for the last time, to find the bones. And he”s not the only one. Pitted against both the CIA and an organization that will kill to protect their secrets, Jack and Espy follow hard-to-decipher clues across the globe before arriving in the catacombs of Paris for a final showdown that will either save their family–or tear apart everything they hold dear forever. (Taken from Chapters.ca)

Blood and Bones is the third book in the Jack Hawthorne series, but you could also say it’s the sequel to Elisha’s Bones. I’ll be honest, I haven’t read Elisha’s Bones yet, (Shame on me) so some of the things, I would need to read Elisha’s Bones to fully grasp some things.
But what I can tell you, it is definitely a page turner. I read the previous book, Serpent of Moses, and found it to be quite thrilling, a la Indiana Jones and was absolutely excited about this. Time definitely went into research for this, the names of places, the details.

It’s chalk full of action, suspense, and thrilling archaeological thrills. I wasn’t aware of the time between serpent of Moses and This book, but Don wrote  something simply amazing, realizing what would happen after ten years.

I’m not sure why a decade long gap was written in, but it still makes for a fantastic read, how the characters react with the aging. Honestly, if you’re looking for a good action book, or if you’re an Indiana Jones/archaeology fan, this is a brilliant read. I mean, I would rather read this book than watch a certain newer movie in a certain series.

The only thing I can find fault in it, is that since this is a Christian book, there could be more if that theme in it? But What is in the book of that theme, it’s Honestly absolutely well done.

Who knows if we’ll get to read more about Jack in the future.

Signs, Wonders and a Baptist Preacher: How Jesus Flipped My World Upside Down by Chad Norris

Standard

“Demonstrating humor, candor, and personal vulnerability, this Southern Baptist preacher offers an entertaining, non-religious look at the Holy Spirit. He shares transparently, recounting his own history of depression and panic attacks until Jesus rescued him and showed him how to do the works of the Father. As Norris explains, “I had no paradigm for that.

Even though Jesus said we will do even greater things than he did, we don”t. Norris”s engaging narrative style lowers readers” defenses and opens their minds to the idea that these “greater things” are more attainable than they think. Because we are loved more than we imagine, says Norris, we are more capable of doing the Father”s works than we have ever considered.” Then he challenges readers to engage with the supernatural.” (Taken from Chapters.ca)

Now what first got me interested in this book was simply just the title. I thought to myself,  this is going to be a very interesting read. Sure enough, it was absolutely amazing.

Jesus said we would do greater things than what he did. He did some pretty amazing things, so for us to think that we can do greater things than what he did, it’s absolutely mind blowing. A lot of the times though, we don’t see people do greater things that what Jesus did? Why’s that? I have no idea.

Maybe people are scared to step out and have everyone think they are weird, but maybe that’s what God wants us to be – weird, peculiar, different from everyone else so we don’t do the same things as everyone else. Maybe than we’ll start to do great things.

Chad does a great job explaining the Holy Spirit. One thing that really works even though it might be hard, are real, true life stories that people can relate too. He opens up sharing some of his stories, and other stories that will make we go woah, that is amazing. That’s what was going through my head as I was reading this book.

In short, if you want to learn how more about the Holy Spirit and how you might start doing great, or even greater things then this would be a very good book to read if it’s a topic that interests you. I’ll describe the book in four words:

Crazy and insanely good.

Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist

Standard

“As a follow up to her two bestselling books, Bittersweet and Cold Tangerines, author and blogger Shauna Niequist returns with the perfect read for those who love food and value the community and connection of family and friends around the table.” (Taken From Chapters.ca)

First off, if anyone’s thinking what I’m doing having a book with the word wine in the title, don’t worry, I’m not drinking nor will I ever.

Secondly, I like food, and I like to eat. This book has both, though I can’t eat the book, though I can eat the food that’s talked about in the book.

Why did I get this book in the first place? When I got the email regarding reviewing this, it said the  book had recipes in it and that’s what drew me to this book. Though I am a guy, some of the stuff, that’s talked about really wasn’t for me.

Another thing that I like are stories, I love to read and this book definitely has stories. Stories about food and cooking and meals and gathering with friends and family for a dinner party or just friends sharing a meal. I like to cook, and I absolutely agree with the author of the book. Food brings everyone together. People can laugh and cry at the table while sharing a meal or  just sit there because the meal was great and they can’t get up because they ate to much.

Life is kind of like cooking. We keep trying new recipes out, or some of the old ones with a new twist to it. We need to try new things with our day to day life or it will become stale like old bread.

I haven’t tried any of the recipes yet, but am planning on it sometime, just not sure when. Food connects with everyone no matter where you are. It’s like music, being a language that everyone connects with and you don’t have to say anything, food speaks for itself.

This is such a great book. and I had many favourite parts. I had one that I was going to put in here, but I completely forgot what it was, but a new part was brought to  my attention when reading this and it’s something that completely blew my mind away.

Shauna was talking about communion (I just got the book because recipes in it, I didn’t know it would have anything like this in it! exciting) and in referencing the title, I can’t remember the exact words, but she talks about how the bread is what the peasants would eat, and the wine is what the rich would drink. I never thought of it like that before, simply amazing. Basically saying, it doesn’t matter where you come from or what your background is. Anyone can follow Jesus whether you are rich or poor.

There’s Beauty in it, there’s beauty in food and cooking and sharing a meal with people you know, or sharing a meal with people who bring people that you on’t even know. It doesn’t have to be anything difficult at all.

Read this book for yourself and experience it. Spend time making the recipes. Come around the table with friends and family.
