Spam!

No, I’m definitely not talking about that canned meat, I’m never had it, and I certainly never want to try it. Besides, I’ve seen people use it as a table cleaner or something like that on tv.

No, this is about the kind of spam that we get online. No nutritional value, just as dumb though. I checked my WordPress account this morning, and I had 5 spam comments, which I got rid of. It’s the most I think I’ve gotten so far, so should I say I’m getting spam famous? :P

I kind of laughed, one of the comments that I deleted was about not using bold and italics enough and to watch a 4 minute video, yeah, like I’m going to be doing that (there’s bold for you :P)

So my question today, does everyone out there get a lot of spam comments they have to delete? Or are some actually legitimate that somehow they get placed in there?

Avengers Assemble!

So after seeing a movie poster featuring Captain America and Hawkeye, and seeing trailers, etc for it. I think I’d better say what I’ve been wanting to say. Warning, this is my own opinion :P

Why did they change Cap’s Costume? Why couldn’t they keep and use the same one from The First Avenger? Why couldn’t they make something similar to the suit that we all know and love? Why do I think it might possibly be a little dumb looking?

I still want to see the movie though

Comics!

I’ve been blogging a lot about DC’s The New 52, but I haven’t even told you all of them that I’m getting! So here’s the list

  1. Action Comics
  2. All-Star Western
  3. Aquaman
  4. Batman
  5. Captain Atom
  6. Detective Comics
  7. Flash
  8. Green Arrow
  9. Green Lantern
  10. Green Lantern Corps
  11. Green Lantern New Guardians
  12. Grifter
  13. Justice League
  14. Justice League International
  15. Legion Lost (kinda right now:P)
  16. Nightwing
  17. Red Hood And The Outlaws
  18. Savage Hawkman
  19. Superboy
  20. Supergirl
  21. Superman
  22. Teen Titans

so yea, lots of titles. I’m also thinking about picking of Swamp thing because I really like what I’ve read of it. Animal man #1 was great, just not the rest, no offence to DC, just not my style.

Now, the other titles that I pick up that are not DC

  1. Ultimate Spider-man (the new series)
  2. Flash Gordon Zeitgeist
  3. Super Dinosaur
  4. Mega-Man

Annnd, I think that’s pretty much it. So basically I just told you what titles I’m picking up.

So what titles are you picking up every month? What titles of The New 52 are you reading? how excited are you for the second wave that’s coming in May? (Dial H!)

Catching up!

Seriously! I still have like some number 5’s to finish ad then working on #6 issues of DC Comics NEW 52!! wooo *insert cheering or fanfare or whatever happy thing you want to put here* I haven’t caught up with each of the books that I’m getting, but surely enough this will happen.

It’s March Break, I went with my Parents to visit my sister who is away at school, and what did I bring with me for reading material? Immanuel’s Veins by Ted Dekker and All Star Western #2-6 (which I finished the other story in #6 earlier tonight, totally caught up with that book) I’ve really liked All Star Western since the beginning. The art is fantastic, giving a little more of the western feel that it’s set in. Character I really like, you can see what’s being progressed with of them in each book. Did I mention it’s also getting crazier with each book? I mean, I don’t want to give any surprises away from #6 if you haven’t read it, but it is a goodie. (I also early liked the back story, and then in #4 I kinda freaked out that it was something else, but I really liked that one as well.)

I just finished Captain Atom #5 (currently working on #6) but with #5 I’m thinking, woah, there’s going to be a big fight or something, and at the end, pow, you get hit with an ending that is so great, it makes you wonder “How is that even possible?” :P (If you know what I mean, I hope it’s explained n later issues or #6 and if it isn’t, you know, let me know?

Speaking of Captain Atom, I think it’s one of my favourite, favourites (along with the Flash, but that’ll be talked about in a later blog or something) books of the new 52. I love the story, the character, the style of art is freaking amazing (same way I describe the art for Flash) and I’ll say that Captain Atom #2 is my favourite issue so far of the book.

Now I’ve caught up on Superboy, Action Comics, and Justice League International as well. JLI is turning out to be something  great, and I’m excited to see what’s going to be happening with that. Their turning into more of a team, and Booster’s looking to be like a great leader. Action comics is simply just a great book, and I like the side story in it (what’s the actual name for the story at the end? not a back book, just not sure what it’s actually called. Mini story?)
Superboy is a fun book. I like the art style, not so serious look to it, but not too cartoony., and I mean Superboy’s growing up, learning so many things>

Not sure what the next book I’ll be catching up on, but I’ll definitely be letting all of you know about it!

Immanuel’s Veins by Ted Dekker

First off, no, this is not a book review, because I haven’t even finished the book. I’m only just starting chapter 10, and I’m hoping it gets because, because I don’t know, maybe it’s not my style, but it’s not my favourite book so far. I’m just hoping it gets better, but it kinda sounds like it might get better.

Edit – I knew it was a  book about vampires, from what I heard, but to be honest, I mean it just seems like a vampire romance book with the occasional person getting shot? I so hope it’s much more than this

Books = Imagination

We all know that the title is just plan and simple and easy to get, books are imaginative. They take you to places that you might not get to go to, or in some cases, places and times and worlds that don’t even exist (or had exist).

You start reading whatever book that it is your reading and suddenly your immersed in a world full of pirates, or up in space trying to save the galaxy from destruction, etc. There’s just so many places where could be when you read a book. If you get into it, like really get into the book that you’re reading, you feel like your part of that book, in the same world as the characters of the book, right alongside with them. One of my favourite books are The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. I mean, one moment your in this beautiful old house full of history, and next moment, you see this wardrobe, in an empty room, but you step into it, and getting past all of the winter coats and that you find yourself in this whole other world with talking animals, and Lions, and a legend that you’re part of that you don’t even realize. and that’s only one book! (or even if your in stores with your brother and sister, and seeing a wardrobe and wanting to go to Narnia.)

There’s adventure in any book that you read, and I love to read. You get sucked into reading a good book, and next thing you know a few hours have gone by. I don’t know if everyone else has done it, but even giving different voices in your mind to all of the characters in the book so they don’t sound the same, and it just gives a book a whole other level. It just makes a ooh, I find, that much more enjoyable.

Even comics books (if you’ve been following along with this blog, hopefully you have) fall into this category. Whatever it is, I use different voices for the different characters and it makes things that much better, more enjoyable.

It doesn’t matter whatever you read, have some fun and who knows what  you’ll find.

2012 – The Year Of The Ska

or The Year Of The Horn, either works.
But with either one that you choose, it only means one thing – you better have your dancing’ shoes on.

If you haven’t heard, or found out after (like me) you know that the O.C. Supertones are back!

Few months ago, it was Five Iron Frenzy announcing a comeback with a new record and a crazy amount they raised for their Kickstarter. On their Facebook page, the Supertones announced something big was going to happen on March 9th, and the first that came to my was a new album. Sure enough, I was right, but when I actually saw those words, I think I exploded with happiness all over again. If you haven’t already yet downloaded their new FREE song from Noisetrade, you need to do that pronto. It is such a fun and catchy song. One Kickstarter that I definitely think that I will back.

I never did see these guys live, and this is like a second chance, maybe it would be a better chance if they came to Canada, but one can hope right?

Here’s the link for their Kickstarter – http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theocsupertones/oc-supertones-new-album
(the link to the new song is at the bottom and right now 40 days left, their at just over $3800)

The Circle Series

book review time! *cheering from all around can be heard*

I’ve always wanted to do this, ,write a review for one of my favourite books, or in this case my favourite 4 books. I did a little mini review of this last year and one a 10 dollar gift certificate from a bookstore. Thought it was time I try for something a lot bigger.

Now one of my favourites, and probably will be one of my favourites, is C.S. Lewis’s tales about 2 brothers and 2 sisters, going into a wardrobe in the spare room because they were hiding, and unbeknownst to them, they arrive in another world called Narnia. Ever Since I’ve been reading them (well I only started reading them after the The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe came out at the theatre)

Anyways, now on to what everyone’s been waiting for! *drumroll*
Now comes an author by the name of Ted Dekker, and the first book I read of his was Thr3e, which was simply crazy. I’ve read several more of his books, and to be honest, I was never a fan of the thriller/suspense genre, and I don’t know if it’s the Christianity aspects of them (which it probably is) but you can say I’m hooked.

now I’m at a bookstore one day, looking through the sale/clearance book section and I came across two books by Dekker. ONe was called Black – The Birth of Evil, and the other White (I think the subtitle for this is the Heroic rescue, but I may be wrong, I don’t have them handy and close by) They were only around 7 dollars each, and later I realized that these were a trilogy, and I was missing the second book! So I decided not to read Black until I had the second book in the series, which I found out after doing research, was called Red.

Once I had all three of these books, I had started to read them. I remember I had read the first 5 chapters of Black and then forgot about the series for some reason so after a while I started to reread black and finish the trilogy. At first I was like, what’s going on? One Chapter Thomas Hunter was in Denver Colorado, another chapter he was somewhere totally different, but they were all connected to each other. (Later in the book, Thomas spends more than one chapter in Denver, Colorado and what’s called “Other Earth”) They also have an idea that they call The Great Romance.

To be honest, I really didn’t want to put them down, but you know, I needed to sleep. They were definite page turners, always wanting to know what Was Happening to Thomas in both worlds. Before the end of the first book, you find out that events that happened in Other Earth, were happening on Earth, which in the book, is before what’s called The Great Deception, and when Thomas is in Other Earth, it’s far into the future, where he has t o find out about the ‘Histories’ as they are being called, to help save Earth. That’s after trying to figure out which one was a dream and which was real (crazy! I know!) He meets in black a bow asking THomas, who he thought he was.

In the second book, which is set 15 years after black, Thomas, along with his sister, a pharmecutical company, and the U.S. Government is trying to stop a madman from unleashing what could be the end of the world as anyone knows of it. Honestly, Everything was amazing about the book, I don’t think I could say anything bad about it. The characters were amazingly written, the action wasn’t slow, always wanted to turn to the next page to find out what’s happening. it was crazy, it was intense. Along with everyone else that wants him dead in both worlds, he brings knowledge to Other Earth from Earth to help fight.

Skip forward a couple years, and when I find out Ted’s releasing green, I thought ‘No way” and when I read it, I definitely couldn’t put it down. At the start of it, he’s just in Other Earth, because well, he’s dead on Earth, after coming back several times using the Books of Histories. In Green, He’s also kinda helping who he’s been fighting. At the end of the book, honestly, when Thomas asked Elyon (God) about saving his family because everything was going how he thought it wasn’t going to go, and next thing you knew, it was like you were reading Black, making it a COMPLETE CIRCLE. It was honestly so amazing and so crazy I thought it was absolutely amazing.

I thought all 4 books were absolutely amazing, such a spectacular read. I tried to be spoiler free if you haven’t read them, but as you can see, it isn’t all spoiler free. My favourite part of the whole series is in the second book, Red, near the end of it, when there gathered as what they call The Circle (I haven’t read it in a while so I’m trying to remember) after they kill Justin and I can’t remember who’s speaking, I think it’s Elyon, I can’t remember, but their talking about the Love, and jumping in the water, and I wish I could  totally remember it, because I thought it was the most amazing thing ever.

Everything about this is great, though when I found out that fans had complained about the end of Green because it didn’t actually end it, and Ted Dekker rereleased all 4 books in one and that’s the only way you can read the new alternate ending (it contains both endings by the way) I wanted to read it, and I still want to read this new ending. Only thing is though, I already have all 4 books, do I really want to buy all 4 books again just to read the ending? Not really, I still want to read it anyways.

So if you unlike suspense, thrillers, action, romance (yes it has everything basically) and  I think it’s a good thing to say that you should definitely read this. The analogies and everything relating is just spectacular, something you definitely will not be disappointed with.
